Erin T. McElmurry

Erin's Bio

Erin's love for horses started at a very young age, finally at the age of 7, she began taking riding lessons to learn the basic fundamentals of being on and around horses.  In just a few short years it was clear that she was on the path for a career with horses.  In 1994 she attended Meredith Manor International Equestrian School.  In the first year of college she was trained in dressage, stadium jumping and reining.  Her second year Erin quickly realized that dressage was what flowed in her blood and dedicated the rest of her college to it. After doubling up on classes and a lot of hard work Erin graduated "Grand Champion" of her school receiving a Certified Teaching and Training Degree in Dressage with a 4.0 GPA and Honors in 1996.

Once Erin graduated from Meredith Manor, she went on to europe to be a working student for nearly a year working at a top breeding and training facility in the Netherlands.  Once Erin returned to the USA she has continued her education by working with/for many different FEI Level Trainers and Clinicians over the last 15 years including Hilda Gurney, Sven Rothenberger, Carole Grant, Michelle Gibson, Nancy Smith and Steffen Peters.

Erin received her USDF Silver Medal in 2007.  In August of 2010 Erin completed the USDF L-Judging Program and successfully passed in the top of her class with distinction.  Currently Erin is successfully competing through FEI Level Intermediate-1 and training all Grand Prix Movements.  Having started many young horses under saddle Erin understands that correct training is a balance of the horses' mental capabilities and physical strength.   With Erin’s patient and methodical approach to training she brings out the horses' strengths and develops a horse who cooperates happily and loves his work.  Erin also does a wonderful job of correcting past training issues with horses that have just been confused or not started correctly.

Erin enjoys teaching all levels and ages of riders.  Currently she is teaching and coaching several 4-H riders, pony club riders and USDF young riders through the FEI Levels.

Erin takes pride in being able to bring out the full potential of every horse and rider she has the pleasure of working!  She is a sensitive and knowledgeable classical dressage trainer who has everyone's best interest and safety in mind at all times.  While creating a positive and enjoyable atmosphere, she can teach you the skills needed to arrive confidently at the goals you have for yourself and your horse.
